Tallan has selected and awarded their second annual scholarship for a female high school student who is enrolled to pursue a degree in Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this coming fall.

Tallan is an industry-leading provider of custom software development solutions and business consulting to enterprise and mid-sized companies across the country.  Last year was the inaugural year for the scholarship program, and this year, more than 30% more applications were received.  According to MachineDesign.com, women make up only 13% of the existing engineering workforce. In light of this, senior leadership at Tallan took that gap and used it as an opportunity to promote the #womeninSTEM movement.

Last Friday, representatives from Tallan’s leadership team attended the final presentations made by West Hartford students at Conard High School and, with the help of the Jackie Corricelli and Anthony Truss, computer science teachers at the West Hartford Public high school, selected the winner and awarded her an enterprise-grade developer laptop.  The winner can already program in 8 different languages and has been coding since the 6th grade.  It will be a great pleasure to watch her ambition and successes continue to grow throughout her college career.

Samantha Francis, Marketing Manager for Tallan said, “Being encouraged to be creative, and to find a way to make a difference by Senior Management has been so incredible.  We, as an organization, have the ability and responsibility to promote the advancement of women in STEM fields. I’m so proud we are a part of the movement, and am looking forward to continuing to grow this program in the coming years.”
