Connecticut Administrative
Service Organization

CLIENT STORY
As the sole administrative service organization for the State of Connecticut’s HUSKY and Charter Oak Health Plan, this Healthcare Organization wanted to integrate their system with the State of Connecticut to automate their authorization process. With the utilization of Microsoft BizTalk, Tallan was able to integrate both systems together to create an application that can handle HIGH volumes of data with a robust load balanced server configuration, making integration with other systems in the future easier.

THE CHALLENGE

An Administrative Service Organization (ASO) had become the sole administrative service organization for the State of Connecticut’s HUSKY and Charter Oak Health Plan.  As part of this contract, the healthcare organization wanted to integrate their systems with the State of Connecticut systems to automate the authorization process.

The authorization process is used to communicate requests and receive approval for health care services prior to treatment.  This not-for-profit ASO would reduce a lot of manual work and phone calls by integrating this process with the State systems.

Additionally, the organization needed to synchronize their lists of members and providers with the state systems on a regular basis.

THE SOLUTION

Vision

Tallan leveraged Microsoft BizTalk to handle the integration between the Connecticut ASO system and the State of Connecticut systems.

BizTalk is ideal for situations where high availability and zero message loss is a requirement. A standard message format, or canonical, was created for members, providers and authorizations making integration with other systems in the future easier.

Result

The application was designed to handle HIGH volumes of data with a robust load balanced server configuration.

Tallan assisted in configuring the development, test and production environments. As the project came to a close, Tallan performed knowledge transfer with the Connecticut ASO staff so that they could maintain and support the system.
